Migrating

Migrating from Server to Cloud?

We understand many of our customers are undergoing a shift from on-premises to Cloud instances of Jira given Atlassian announcement to end support for Server.

To compare cloud migration methods, please visit this Atlassian Support page.

Jira Cloud Migration Assistant

The Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) is a free Jira Server/DC app offered by Atlassian via the Marketplace. For more information about Atlassian support moving to Jira Cloud, see Atlassian's Cloud migration center.

Suitable for:

  • Server to Cloud

  • Data Center to Cloud

What you need:

Jira Cloud Migration Assistant can be used to migrate Programs data under the following conditions:

  • You are using JCMA to migrate your Jira Data.

  • You are using Easy Agile Programs v4.4.0 or later on the Jira Server/DC site.

  • Easy Agile Programs installed on the destination Jira Cloud site.

Are you eligible for dual licensing? Learn more about it here.

How does it work?

Follow the steps on how to use the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant to migrate Programs data to your Cloud instance. During the Assess your apps stage, status of Needed in Cloud should be assigned to Programs to enable it for JCMA migration.

When one or more Jira projects that appear in a Program are migrated to Jira Cloud using JCMA, that Program will be added to the destination Jira Cloud instance shortly after the main migration step has occurred.

Projects included in a migration

Outcome in Easy Agile Programs for Jira Cloud

All Projects in a Jira instance

All Programs will appear in Jira Cloud as they did in Jira Server

All Projects in a Program (minimum recommended)

That Program will appear in Jira Cloud as it was in Jira Server; other Programs will not be migrated

Some of the Projects in a Program

That Program will be migrated, but only contain the migrated Project Boards; some teams/Boards will be missing*

No Projects that appear in any Programs

No Programs will be migrated

Planning a staggered migration? It’s important to migrate the relevant Jira projects AND Easy Agile Programs in the same migration.

If more than one of your migrations will include Jira projects used in Easy Agile Programs, you’ll need to include Easy Agile Programs in each of those migrations.

It’s safe to include Easy Agile Programs in every migration; if it cannot find any relevant app data to migrate, this step will skip automatically.

Troubleshooting Easy Agile Programs migrations with JCMA

If app data is missing on the Cloud site, first check if the associated Jira data has been migrated successfully:

  • Check that the team and roadmap boards used in the Program on the Server/DC site are available on the Jira Cloud site.

  • Check that the Jira issues that were scheduled in the Program on the Server/DC site can be found in the matching Jira projects on the Jira Cloud site.

  • Check that the date fields and issue link types configured for the Program can be found on the Jira Cloud site.

Logs are available on the Jira Cloud site in: Jira settings → Manage apps → Easy Agile Programs in the left navigation → Migration Assistant:

Why is the migration “Successful”, but not all Programs have appeared on the Cloud site?

There are three main causes of this that will appear in the migration logs:

  • The issue link type for dependencies in the Program is missing from the cloud instance.

  • The issue link type used to connect team-level issues to the Program Roadmap is missing from the cloud instance.

  • The date fields used in the Program are missing from the Issue Screens in the migrated Jira projects.

Migrating from Server to Data Center

Migrating from Server to Data Center is easy. Simply change your license key in Manage Apps and our app will continue to work as before.

(info) We recommend that you migrate from the newest version of our app to the same version on Data Center. This will reduce the likelihood of errors occurring during migration.

Visit Atlassian’s documentation on migrating from Server to Data Center.

What if the Server version of Easy Agile Programs is out of date? How do I upgrade to the latest version?

Existing customers can continue to purchase new Server Marketplace apps until February 15, 2023 PT. However, after February 15, 2024, Server Marketplace apps will reach end of support. (Source)

FAQs

Can I migrate from a multi-node DC instance?

There are currently some issues migrating from multi-node DC instances which Atlassian are aware of. We hope to have a fix implemented for this limitation in the medium term. In the meantime as a workaround, Atlassian suggest that users with multi-node DC instances using only one node while completing JCMA migrations.
